Auntie's approach is based on proven effective psychological frameworks
We have been developing Auntie's approach to promoting mental wellbeing since 2015. The development has been guided by the principles of modern cognitive behavioral therapy as well as a preventive and solution-oriented perspective.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
At the heart of Auntie's approach are the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, known as the ACT method. A large number of scientific studies of its effectiveness have been published both in Finland and around the world. These studies show that the method has a positive impact for a wide range of mental wellbeing challenges. In addition to therapy, the ACT method has also been used in other contexts, such as stress management groups, career counselling and coaching.
In a nutshell, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is all about developing psychological flexibility that promotes wellbeing and helps you to live a vibrant and meaningful life. Psychological flexibility enables you to act according to the values and goals that are important to you, even in challenging situations.
Psychological flexibility increases when you learn to focus your time and energy on the things you have the power to influence and to accept the things that are outside of your sphere of influence. It is also important to learn how to deal with difficult thoughts and feelings in a way that promotes wellbeing and your own goals. Accepting difficult feelings and thoughts may sound unpleasant at first, but it is a powerful way to make positive changes in your life.
In addition to the ACT, Auntie's approach is also based on the principles of Solution-Focused Therapy and Positive Psychology.
A solution-focused approach
The Auntie packages also use a solution-focused approach, which focuses on your goals and what you want to change, rather than dwelling on and analysing problems. It is a resource-focused way of working where your own skills and strengths are identified and used. This can build confidence in your abilities, increase hope and bring about meaningful change in your life.
Positive psychology
Positive psychology also focuses on human resources and strengths. This approach examines how to promote wellbeing and the experience of meaningfulness and happiness in life, regardless of situations that evoke unpleasant thoughts and feelings.
